Dr. Stephen Rivard is the Founder and Medical Director of Illinois Vein Specialists, SC, a dedicated Center of Excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease™, located in Lake Barrington, IL, in the United States.
Dr. Rivard began his career as one of the earliest Board Certified emergency physicians and co-directed the Good Shepherd Hospital Emergency Department over the next 28 years.
In 2006 he began another career in the developing field of venous and lymphatic medicine and again was one of the first to be board certified when it became a recognized specialty in 2008. In that time, he has also provided fellowship training to several physicians in venous and lymphatic medicine, all of whom went on to also become board certified. Because of his extensive background in emergency medicine and in venous and lymphatics, he has been able to advance the understanding and practical application of his new field to the benefit of his patients and his patients' physicians.
His education and training include: B.S. – Loyola University, Cum Laude; M.D. – Loyola University; Residency – Emergency Medicine, Butterworth Hospital, MI; and Fellowship training in Phlebology. Dr. Rivard carries the following Board Certifications: Diplomate, American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine; and a former Diplomate, American Board of Emergency Medicine; Fellow, American College of Emergency Medicine. He is also Certified in Vascular Ultrasonography.
